The Official Standard Method for Vapor Pressure of Crude Oil

CRUDE OIL PACKAGE:
MINIVAP VPXpert or MINIVAP VPSH (only VPSH: plus Rocking Plate)
Floating Piston Cylinder
GRABNER INSTRUMENTS' complete package for the vapor pressure measurement of crude oil according to ASTM D6377 (Expansion Method).
MINIVAP VPXpert and VPSH are extremely versatile instruments for the automatic determination of the vapor pressure behavior of gasoline and gasoline oxygenated blends, live and dead crude oil, solvents and other chemical compounds. MINIVAP is the world wide standard instrument that is used by all major refineries, oil and pipeline companies, independent laboratories and car manufacturers.
The US-EPA declared MINIVAP as the official reference instrument for the USA.
MINIVAP VPS/H are stand-alone units that do not require any accessories. The unique piston based design for automatic sample introduction and volume expansion of the measuring cell makes an expensive and bulky vacuum pump unnecessary. The Grabner measuring principle in combination with the latest standards ASTM D6377 (for Crude Oil) and ASTM D6378 (for Gasoline) avoids tedious sample chilling and air saturation.
This new technology significantly increases refinery profits: it reduces expensive labor time, eliminates operator bias and has considerably improved test precision that offers the advantage to blend closer to the limits and avoid product give-away.
MINIVAP VPS is mostly used for QC purposes while VPXpert and VPSH offer even more features for crude oil and R&D applications, like volatility studies at elevated temperatures and at very low vapor/liquid ratios.
MINIVAP
MINIVAP is a compact, portable and fully automatic instrument for the vapor pressure determination of liquids. The unique piston based measuring principle for automatic sample introduction and expansion developed by GRABNER INSTRUMENTS offers high accuracy and easy operation.
FLOATING PISTON CYLINDER (FPC250)
The new Floating Piston Cylinder (FPC250) was designed in cooperation with Norwegian offshore personnel specifically for ASTM D6377. A mechanical stirrer is included to ensure uniform samples. No valve stems or handles protrude from the cylinder, reducing hazards.
ROCKING PLATE
MINIVAP uses an integrated shaker (VPXpert) or a Rocking Plate (VPSH) to shake the sample inside the measuring cell, reducing the equilibrium time significantly.
Applications
MINIVAP testers are utilized in most major oil and pipeline companies as well as independent test laboratories worldwide. The US-EPA declares the "Grabner" instrument (MINIVAP VPS) as the reference in the USA.
LABORATORY
Applications include routine vapor pressure testing of gasoline, gasoline-oxygenate blends and crude oil, rapid determination of vapor pressure in laboratories and production control facilities, as well as screening and testing directly in the field. MINIVAP VPXpert and VPSH further allow volatility studies at elevated temperatures and the vapor pressure determination of crude oil at very low vapor liquid ratios.
The Grabner Instruments crude oil package is strictly in accordance with the newly published Russian standard GOST 52340 and was specially developed to meet the requirements of Russian crude oil.
ON-LINE
MINIVAP ON-LINE is installed for vapor pressure compliance control of gasoline, crude oil and LPG

Principle
The sample is contained in a 10 mL syringe (3) or in a sample container for direct sampling. The automatic sample introduction and volume adjustment are accomplished by a piston with an integrated pressure transducer (1). The measuring chamber (2) with a total volume of 5 mL is automatically rinsed and filled with 1 mL for the measuring process. After closing the valve (4) driven by the valve motor (5), the volume expansion to 5 mL (with the sample under vacuum condition) is obtained by a further stroke of the piston. The temperature of the measuring cell is controlled with a high-power thermoelectric module (6) and measured with a precision Platinum RTD sensor (7). After the sample introduction and the volume expansion, the test temperature is adjusted. After the equilibrium time, the measurement of the dissolved air is completed. Test results of DVPE, ASVP, Pgas and Pabs are displayed and printed. Automatic piston lubrication is processed with every piston stroke.

Continuous product development may make it necessary to change product specifications without notice.
