Principle
The 0.5 mL syringe (5) containing the steel ball (6) and the sample is inserted in the measuring chamber (1). The sample can be viewed through an illuminated window (8). The temperature of the chamber is controlled by a thermoelectric (Peltier) element (2), which is connected to a heat sink (3). The temperature is measured with a Pt-100 temperature sensor (4). The ball is lifted automatically with a magnet and let loose as to fall under the influence of gravity. The time of descent is measured with two reflection sensors (7). The wavelength of the emitter is in the near infrared at 880 nm.
