The MiniVis 445 is the clever combination of a rolling ball viscometer, an advanced density meter, and an automatic filling system: Precise determination of dynamic and kinematic viscosity over a wide temperature range, all in a rugged instrument fit for heavy duty environments, yet precise enough for the lab bench. The use of reflection sensors makes it possible to cover a wider range of applications: even samples as dark as used or heavy-oil can be measured with highest accuracy and repeatability.
Users appreciate the small sample volume and the automatic sample feeding, the measurement cell is easily accessible and eliminates the usual cleaning problems of other viscometers. Temperature control with the built-in Peltier elements eliminates large water baths and allows for quick determination of viscosity indices.

Easy Cleaning

An automatic rinsing cycle with solvent or a new sample cleans the entire system, that's why we use 25 mL of sample, when only 5 mL are needed for measuring. Due to its bayonet enclosure, the viscosity cell is also easily removable for inspection and cleaning in an ultrasonic bath. You can confirm cleanliness before your results are wrong. The instrument is delivered with 2 viscosity cells to avoid any down time during cleaning.

Principle
The measuring chamber (1) is a rugged glass tube (2) containing a metal ball (3). The sample is fed into the glass tube by the automated sample introduction system or manually with a syringe. The temperature of the whole sample cell and sample introduction system is controlled by a thermoelectric (Peltier) system. The sample cell is automatically rotated within angles from -80° to 80°. In this range, three angles are used and pre-calibrated for standard viscosity measurements. After the ball accelerates to a constant velocity, the time of descent is measured with two reflection sensors (4). The whole procedure is repeated by rotating the sample cell and measuring the opposite direction.
